What we do

Grinding takes out the stump and the root flare, which is what stops it coming back. What you plant next has somewhere to go.

Stumps

Single stumps or the whole yard. Precise work that takes the stump out and leaves clean, level ground behind.

Surface roots

Roots lifting paths, lawn or garden edges get chased and ground out along with the stump.

Bamboo

Taken out at the rhizome mat under the soil, not just cut off at ground level.

850Millimetres wide, on tracks

If your narrowest point is comfortably over 850mm, the machine will fit - and that covers most standard residential gates and side paths. It gets down the side of a house between the fence and the wall.

Bamboo, palms & umbrella trees

Getting rid of the ones that grow back.

If you're trying to get rid of running bamboo, golden cane or cocos palms, an umbrella tree or a yucca in Brisbane, cutting it down won't do it - they all reshoot from the roots. Grinding takes the root system out so they can't come back.

Running bamboo

Spreads by underground rhizomes and shrugs off poison and digging. Grinding out the rhizome mat is what stops it shooting again. Rhizomes travel well past the canes you can see, so the whole run needs doing, not just the clump.

Golden cane & cocos palms

Planted for the resort look, then they crowd pool fences and drop litter in the water year-round. A cocos won't shoot again from a cut trunk, but a golden cane will - and either way the base and root ball stay in the ground, in the way of replanting, paving or a pool fence. Grinding removes the base cleanly, even in tight pool surrounds.

Umbrella trees & yuccas

Both are notorious re-growers with invasive roots that find pipes, pools and foundations. Cut one off at ground level and it shoots again from the stump and roots, often in several spots at once. Cutting them down isn't enough - the stump has to go.

How much does stump grinding cost?

It depends on the size of the stump, how many there are, and the access. Text us a few photos and your suburb and we'll send back a free quote - no site-visit fee, no obligation.

Can you get into my backyard?

Almost always - the grinder is 850mm wide, which clears the majority of standard residential gates and side paths. Include a photo of your gate or access path with your quote photos and we'll confirm.

How deep do you grind?

There's no way to know what's under a stump until we get there and start grinding. Rock, power or water services, or a pool close by can all put a limit on it. We take it as deep as we safely can, and if something stops us we'll show you and talk it through before going further.

What happens to the mulch?

Grinding turns the stump into wood-chip mulch. We can rake it back into the hole or leave it neatly for your garden - your call.

Will it damage my lawn or garden?

We set up boards to stop debris reaching windows and walls, and take care to protect grass and garden beds on the way in and out.

Will the stump grow back?

Grinding takes out the stump and the root flare, which stops regrowth in almost all cases - including bamboo, umbrella trees and yuccas, which regrow if you only cut them down.

How do I get rid of bamboo for good?

Cutting or poisoning running bamboo doesn't stop it - it shoots again from the mat of rhizomes under the soil. Grinding that mat out is what actually stops it. Rhizomes travel well past the canes you can see, so the whole run needs doing, not just the clump.

Will a palm grow back if I cut it down?

A cocos palm won't shoot again from a cut trunk, but a golden cane will - it's a clumping palm, so cut one cane and the clump keeps sending up new ones. Either way the base and root ball stay in the ground, in the way of replanting, paving or a pool fence. Grinding takes the base out cleanly, including in tight pool surrounds.

Do umbrella trees and yuccas grow back?

Yes - both are known for it. Cut an umbrella tree or a yucca off at ground level and it shoots again from the stump and roots, often in several spots at once. Grinding takes out the stump and root flare so it can't, and the roots stop working on your pipes and paths.
